Template notice: this policy is a general template — have it reviewed by legal counsel before relying on it.
The Electronic Recycling Association (“ERA”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use this website or our services, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Information you provide — when you request a pickup, mail-back shipping label or donation, contact us, or apply to a programme, we collect details such as your name, email, phone, organisation, location or shipping address, a description of the equipment involved, and any photo of the equipment you choose to share.
- Equipment & service data — for data-destruction and IT asset disposition services, we record asset details (such as device types and serial numbers) needed to provide certificates and reporting.
- Automatically collected data — like most websites, we may collect basic technical information (such as IP address, browser type and pages visited) through standard logs and analytics.
How we use your information
- To respond to your requests and provide pickups, donations and data-destruction services.
- To produce service documentation (e.g. certificates of destruction, inventory and impact reports).
- To communicate with you about your request and, where you have opted in, about ERA news and impact.
- To operate, secure and improve our website and services.
How we protect your data
Protecting data is core to our mission. Equipment we receive for reuse or recycling is securely wiped or physically destroyed before any device is refurbished or passed on. We apply reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to the personal information you share with us.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to deliver our services (for example, with vetted logistics or downstream recycling partners), to comply with the law, or with your consent.
Cookies
We may use cookies and similar technologies for basic site functionality and analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Your choices
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information you have provided, and you may unsubscribe from non-essential communications at any time, by contacting us below.
New Zealand privacy
We handle personal information in line with the privacy principles of the Privacy Act 2020. You may request access to or correction of your personal information by emailing us. If you have a privacy concern we cannot resolve, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).
