Get involved

There’s more than one way to make an impact.

Mail in an old laptop with a free NZ Post label, donate retired equipment, host a community event, partner with us as a business or school, volunteer with our team, or sponsor a youth workshop. Every path moves technology somewhere it can do more good.

Recycle by mail

One old laptop? Mail it in — the label’s on us.

For residents and remote workers anywhere in New Zealand. Tell us what you’re sending and, once your request is reviewed, we’ll email you a free prepaid NZ Post label for qualified small devices — laptops, tablets, phones and the like. Print it, attach it to any sturdy box, and drop your parcel at any NZ Post store.

  • Free prepaid NZ Post label — NZ-wide
  • Print it, attach it, and drop your parcel at any NZ Post store
  • Free data-wipe certificate on request — your files are gone, provably
  • Returning a company laptop? Perfect for remote employees, too
We review each request before sending your label — an optional photo of your items speeds up review, but never blocks it. Large items like TVs and monitors — or boxes of cables alone — don’t qualify for a free label, but reach out anyway and we’ll point you to the right option.

Volunteer

Hands-on volunteer opportunities.

Help sort, test and refurbish donated equipment at our Auckland facility. Great for students, IT professionals brushing up hardware skills, and anyone who wants to give back in a tangible way. And there’s something in it for you: volunteers who complete their hours earn a refurbished computer to take home.

  • Computer technician — sort, test and refurbish equipment; no experience needed
  • Awareness ambassador — represent ERA at collection events and community days
  • Office administration — help with scheduling, intake and donation records
  • Earn a refurbished computer after completing your volunteer hours

Youth programmes

Parts to PC & scholarship support.

Our youth programmes turn refurbished components into hands-on learning. In Parts to PC, students build a working PC from parts, take it home, and gain technical skills in the process. The format is proven — the ERA network’s Canadian workshops regularly fill up — and it’s launching at our Auckland facility.

  • Free two-hour Parts to PC workshops for ages 12–15
  • Saturday sessions, capped at 10 students; parental consent form required
  • Scholarship programme support with refurbished laptops
  • Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch schools and after-school programmes prioritised
  • Volunteer opportunities for mentors and IT pros
